Lima City Centre

The Lima City Photo Walking Tour has a bit of our Peruvian history, culture, iconic buildings (and others not so iconic but old-styled) and people’s lifestyle.
We will have as spots for shooting areas like Plaza San Martin (built on the occasion of the independence centennial celebrations in 1921), Torre Tagle Balconies and many other republican buildings on the way to St. Francis Square. We will go to the Plaza Mayor (Cathedral, Government Palace, Archbishop Palace Balconies) and its surrounding streets to walk and wait for some street photography and take some pics of sellers, people, doors, shops, food, etc.

Suggested plan

After picking a taxi to Lima Centre we will explore its streets and places as San Martin Square, Santo Domingo, San Francisco Sq., Jiron de La Union, Plaza Mayor, among other places.

Total distance: 5K / Walking time 1:30 hours / Average Total time: 4 hours + shuttle
Note: Timing and distance could be adjusted depending season, weather conditions or time spend on each place.

Our photographer suggests

We suggest to start:
– Very early around 6:30 or 7 am so there is time for a coffee or tea and streets are pretty empty. Good to end before noon and well recommended in summer.
– From May to November from 9 am or later.
– Around 3 pm in summer to avoid the heath, shoot streets with people, keeping in mind that traffic on the way back could be tough, so is a good idea to stay longer in some Coffee shop.

What kind of photos we´ll take

Architecture, streets, people.

What lenses are best for this trip?

For enthusiasts a smartphone or a basic camera works enough, but if you bring many lenses here are the suggestions:
A 85 mm, 105 mm for shooting people.
A zoom 24-70 / 24-105 / 35-150 mm good for multi use.
Additionals a tele and a wide angle lenses.
On sunny days a ND2 or polarized filter.

When is best?

This photo trip can be done for the whole year.

What do I have to bring?

Basically in summer (Jan-Apr) you must use sunscreen and fresh clothes. Lima temperatures are on average 24-32C.
During winter (Jul-Oct) long sleeves and a wind vest for temperatures of 12-16C. Usually, it doesn´t rain too much (except in Aug-Sep) but bringing an extra coat for rain or cold may be helpful.

Important note

This is a photo walk in street areas, we will walk slowly, anyway if you cannot walk too much or have some dissability please tell us to modify the original plan or consider hiring a driver.
