Lima City Centre
The Lima City Photo Walking Tour offers a glimpse into Peruvian history, culture, iconic architecture (and some lesser-known but charming old-style buildings), and everyday life.
We’ll visit spots such as Plaza San Martin, the Torre Tagle balconies and many other republican-era buildings, San Francisco and Santo Domingo to complete the visit at the Plaza Mayor, where we’ll photograph landmarks like the Cathedral, Government Palace, and the Archbishop’s Palace balconies. We’ll stroll through the surrounding streets, pausing for street photography to capture scenes of local vendors, passersby, doors, shops, food, and more.
Suggested plan
After picking a taxi to Lima Centre we will explore its streets and places as San Martin Square, Santo Domingo, San Francisco Sq., Jiron de La Union, Plaza Mayor, among other places. Optionally we may also go to visit the Central Market.
Total distance: 5K / Average Total time: 4 hours + shuttle
Note: Timing and distance could be adjusted depending season, weather conditions, hour of the visit or time spend on each place.
Timing suggestions
– For a better view of architecture and buildings: Start early around 6:30 or 7 am so there is time for a coffee or tea when streets are pretty empty. Well recommended in summer.
– For some crowdy and local activities: Start at 9 am and maybe try some meal or sandwich.
– For afternoon, night and maybe blue hour start around 4 pm. It means shoot main streets with lot of people, and some other more quiet places as night comes, good also to try some coffee, dessert or maybe a pisco sour.
What kind of photos we´ll take

What lenses are best for this trip?
For photography enthusiasts, a smartphone or basic camera is usually sufficient. However, if you’re bringing multiple lenses, here are some recommendations:
– A zoom lens such as 24–70 mm, 24–105 mm, or 35–150 mm offers versatile coverage for various scenes.
– Consider adding a telephoto lens for bird photography, capture people´s portraits and a wide-angle lens for landscapes or architecture.
– On sunny days, an ND2 or polarized filter can help manage light.
– A tripod is highly recommended for stability, especially in low-light or long exposure conditions.
When is best?
This photo trip can be done for the whole year.
What do I have to bring?
During the summer months (January to April), it’s essential to wear sunscreen and light, breathable clothing. Average temperatures in Lima range from 24°C to 32°C.
In winter (July to October), temperatures typically range from 12°C to 16°C. Long sleeves and a windbreaker are recommended. Although it usually doesn’t rain much—except in August and September—bringing an extra coat for unexpected rain or chilly weather can be helpful.
